Finding photos of recently completed projects can help you determine the quality of their work, skills, and capabilities. Their portfolio can also provide inspiration for your project and help narrow down your wants. If you can’t find any photos online, don’t hesitate to ask!

3. Look For Association Membership and Certifications

  • Do you have a contracting license and proper insurance for review?
  • What’s the timeline for the project?
  • What does the payment schedule look like?

Like any good meeting, it’s important to take notes to reference later. These notes can include their answers to your questions, but don’t forget to note the non-verbal queues as well, such as their attentiveness to the conversation and how engaged they are. These can indicate how your relationship will develop as you work together.

6. Get Everything In Writing

Once you choose a remodeler, take a look at the documents he or she has prepared. Do they look professional? Scrutinize the contract, is it clear and concise? Make sure it includes key points such as:

  • Sequential schedule of primary construction tasks
  • Dispute resolution clause
